Telecom Veteran Bruce Crair To Lead Company as President & COO
June 28, 1999 - TalkStar.com, Inc. today announced that it has raised $11 million in funding from Worldview Technology Partners, Nokia Ventures and Oak Investment Partners. The funds will be used to launch a range of new IP-based voicemail services which leverage the ubiquity of the existing telephony infrastructure, the power of the Web and the Internet backbone. The three funding partners will also provide the TalkStar management team with wide-ranging management and global telecommunications industry expertise. TalkStar.com, Inc. also announced the appointment of Bruce Crair to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer. This appointment further strengthens the management team leading TalkStar's aggressive entry into the IP telephony market. Crair will call on his previous management experiences, including his role as President and founder of Sprint PCS/Cox Communications PCS L.P., for his global responsibilities of business strategy, infrastructure and partnerships.
"Bruce's extensive telecommunications background, leadership skills and track record of building successful companies will be extremely valuable in launching TalkStar's first and its follow-on services worldwide," said Mike Orsak, General Partner & Co-Founder of TalkStar lead investor Worldview Technology Partners. "The market for IP-based messaging services is poised for explosive growth. With Bruce at the helm, we are very confident that TalkStar will quickly assume an industry-leading role."
"I'm very excited by the opportunity to lead TalkStar - initially as we launch our revolutionary new voicemail services and then additional IP-based offerings" said Crair. "I look forward to establishing TalkStar as the leader in IP-based telecommunications services." As President of Sprint PCS/Cox Communications PCS L.P., Crair built the wireless voice communications company from inception to a leadership position in the PCS/Cellular market. Under his direction, in three years, revenues grew to more than $200 million per year and the number of employees expanded to over 1,100. At Pacific Bell, Crair held key management positions in the areas of marketing, regulatory affairs and operations. He was also one of the key field managers responsible for restoring business, governmental and residential communications services to the city of San Francisco following the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989.
